Instagram Launches 'Take A Break' Feature; See How It Works - Kehyo!
Instagram Launches "Take a Break" Feature

Back in November 2021, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram at Meta explained the idea behind the ‘Take a Break’ feature. Now, its out for iOS users in the world.

After testing the feature in November 2021, Instagram has finally decided to roll out its ‘Take a Break’ feature. All countries, including India, will have access to this feature. The function, as the name implies, will allow users to take a break from scrolling across the platform. It will be an optional feature that all users can enable, and it will remind them to take a break from the app.

On the Meta-owned social media site, a similar feature allows users to specify the maximum amount of time they want to spend on the app per day. It’s known as the Daily Limit. Along with these features, the platform is attempting to raise awareness among the youth about Instagram’s limited usage, and it has teamed with We The Young, a youth-driven platform, to launch the Break Zaroori Hai campaign.

Here’s all you need to know about this new feature of Instagram:

  1. Users will be encouraged to take a break from Instagram, with the suggestion that they create reminders for future breaks. They will also be given expert-approved advice on how to reflect and reset
  2. To make sure that young people are aware of this feature, they will be shown notifications suggesting they turn these reminders on.
  3. The ‘Take a Break’ reminders build on Instagram’s existing time management tools including Daily Limit, which lets people know when they have reached the total amount of time they want to spend on Instagram each day and offers the ability to mute notifications from Instagram.
  4. ‘Take a Break’ was first launched in the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, and it is now available for everyone globally.
  5. The feature ‘Take a Break’ will be available on iOS immediately and will roll out to Android in a few weeks.
  6.  It will allow users to set timers for different durations; there are four options available to choose from – 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes or none.

Additionally, the platform has also worked upon suggesting users ideas for what they should do during the break. For instance, the application will show up with the following suggestions when it reminds users to take a break – take a few deep breaths, write down what you’re thinking, listen to your favorite song, do something on your to-do list. The head of Instagram also says that the Take a Break feature is an attempt to provide users with more control over their experience of Instagram.
