A barbeque seller’s son in north Kashmir’s Pattan has qualified NEET in the first attempt.
Mehraj-ud-Din Khan, 20 years old barbeque seller’s son in north Kashmir’s Pattan has cracked NEET in the first attempt. Despite the fact that the youngster belonging to the poor family self-studied for the NEET-UG examination without enrolling in any classes.
Mehraj, the eldest of four children of Gulistan Ahmad Khan – are residents of Guwah village at Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Mehraj cleared NEET by securing 591 marks out of total 720 in his maiden appearance.
His father Gulshan Ahmad runs a barbeque shop in the village and Mehraj used to assist his father in the shop. “I would help my father at the shop at least one week every month. My main responsibility is to man the shop when my father would not be around,” said Mehraj.
He decided to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor when he was in class VIII, and he has been working very hard to achieve it ever since. While his two sisters are in classes XI and VI, Mehraj’s younger brother is a student in class X.
Mehraj said, “I had self-taught myself and have been dedicated all along. I used to spend 8 to 10 hours a day for studying.
“The Internet would be a distraction for most aspirants. However, I cut down on my Internet use to study and it proved very helpful,” he said. He didn’t have a phone, but after the Covid lockdown lifted, his parents got him one.
