Sailors Ritika Dangi won a Gold medal and Neha Thakur won a Bronze at the Asian Sailing Championship. They both are Farmer’s Daughters.
Two daughters of Madhya Pradesh farmers have proved themselves and made their name in sports by winning glory at the international meet. Sailors Ritika Dangi and Neha Thakur bought home a gold and bronze medal respectively at the Asian Sailing Championship that concluded at Abu Dhabi this Sunday.
This has made the Indian Sailing Team qualified for the upcoming Asian Games.
Sailor Ritika Dangi won the gold medal in the ILCA 4 (Laser 4.7 class boat) event. Neha Thakur scored 8 points and came first on the last day of the event. She lost the silver only by one point.
Ritika come from Tajpura village, Narsinghgarh Tehsil, District Rajgarh of Madhya Pradesh. She is the daughter of a farmer.
Neha Thakur on the other hand is from Amlataj village, Hatpipalia Tehsil, Dewas district. She is also the daughter of a farmer.
Both winners were awarded by the head of the Yachting Association of India, Admiral Karmveer Singh.
MP Sailing Academy chief instructor Arjun Vishwamitra Awardee GL Yadav said that both Neha and Ritika are top contenders for medals in Asian Games. Both the players placed first and second in two out of the three trials held so far.
Yadav said that our players are not only winning medals but they have promising medal prospects for important events like the Asian Games and others.
Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia congratulated both winners and said that the glory also highlights the world-class facilities that are being offered by the state for sportspersons.
The 2022 Asian Games will commence from 10th September 2022 and conclude on 25th September 2022.
Hosted by China, the event will take place in the city of Hangzhou. The event will include 46 sports. Cricket has been officially added as a sports program in the 2022 edition of Asian Games.
